Church communications app

A week inside a church communications app.

A church communications app is the tool your team opens each day to see what’s due, what’s going out, and what ministries are asking for. Here’s what a normal week looks like in Communicate, for the communications director and the ministry leaders around them.

A real week

What does a week in a church communications app look like?

Meet a communications director at a mid-sized church, with one part-time teammate, eight ministries, and Fall Kickoff three weeks out.

In a typical week, a church communications app is used to review the week’s messages on Monday, take in ministry requests midweek, get pastor sign-off, finish content for Sunday, and reset for the next week.

Monday: see the whole week

She opens the calendar in week view. The weekly email, three social posts, a text reminder, and Sunday’s slides are already there, color-coded by campaign. Two Fall Kickoff posts land on the same day, so she drags one to Thursday. On Plus, her Assignments view lists what’s due today and this week.

Wednesday: a ministry request comes in

The women’s ministry leader submits a promotion request for a fall retreat, with dates, details, and a flyer. It arrives in the Requests inbox (Plus) instead of a hallway conversation. The director asks one follow-up question, approves it, and generates a draft campaign from the request.

Thursday: the pastor signs off

Fall Kickoff needs the lead pastor’s approval. She sends the campaign for approval, and the pastor, invited as a viewer, reviews the plan and approves it. No meeting, no reply-all.

Friday: content ready for Sunday

Her teammate finishes the announcement copy. On Plus, he clicks Generate for a first draft in the church’s voice, edits it, and attaches the final slide. Messages move from Draft to Active, and everything needed to send sits with each one.

Sunday and after: reset for next week

Sunday’s announcements go out through the church’s usual slides and email tools. On Monday, finished messages are marked Done, and next week is already on the calendar.

For ministry leaders

What do pastors and ministry leaders do in the app?

Pastors and ministry leaders join as viewers. They can see the calendar and campaigns, approve campaigns sent to them, and on Plus submit promotion requests and comment.

  • See what’s coming. Viewers browse the calendar and campaigns without an editing seat, and viewers are unlimited on every plan.
  • Approve when asked. Any member, including a viewer, can be picked to approve a campaign.
  • Request promotion (Plus). Leaders sign in and fill out your request form instead of texting the comms director.
  • Join the conversation (Plus). Comments and @mentions keep questions with the work.

Everyday views

Which views will you use most?

The views a church communicator uses most are the week view for planning, the day view for details, the timeline for seasons, and on Plus, Assignments for personal to-dos.

Week and day views

Timeline

FAQ

Questions about the Communicate app

What is a church communications app?

A church communications app is the tool a church team uses day to day to plan messages, take in ministry requests, track who’s doing what, and see what’s going out on every channel.

How do I open Communicate?

Communicate runs in your web browser. Sign in at calendar.communicate.app; there’s nothing to install.

Do ministry leaders need a paid seat?

No. Pastors and ministry leaders can join as viewers, and viewers are unlimited on both plans. Team member seats are for the people who create and manage communications: 1 on Essentials and up to 5 on Plus.

Will I get notified when something changes?

Yes. Communicate sends in-app notifications, and you can choose email notifications for each type in your settings, such as assignments, mentions, and campaign approvals.
