User Settings

Manage your personal profile, calendar preferences, and notification settings in the Communicate App.

User Settings

Manage your personal information and preferences

User Settings is where you update how you show up in Communicate—your name and photo, which day your week starts on, and which notifications you want in the app or by email. It’s personal to your account: other teammates won’t see your toggles, and you won’t see theirs.

Every signed-in role can open User Settings, including Viewers. There’s nothing here gated by Essentials vs Plus—though some notification events (assignments, comments, mentions) only fire on Plus.

1. Opening User Settings

  1. Click your profile icon (avatar or initials) in the top-right corner
  2. Choose User settings
  3. The User Settings page opens with two tabs: Profile and Notifications

Owners and Admins also see Admin console in that menu—that’s for church profile, team, and billing, not personal preferences. Log out is in the same menu.

2. Profile — Personal Information

On the Profile tab, the Personal Information card holds your account details (helper text: Your account details and contact information.).

Profile Photo

Your photo shows up in assignments, comments, and team lists. If you don’t upload one, we use your initials from your first and last name.

  1. Click Upload photo (or Change photo if you already have one)
  2. Choose an image — it uploads right away (no separate Save)

Helper in the UI: Use a square image (1:1). 500×500px JPG or PNG works best. Supported formats: JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP; max 5MB. Click Remove to clear the photo and fall back to initials.

First Name and Last Name

  1. Click Edit on Personal Information
  2. Update First Name and Last Name
  3. Click Save to keep the change, or Close to discard

Your name is what teammates see in comments, assignments, and the team list.

Email Address

Email Address is shown read-only. It’s how you sign in and where email notifications go. Contact an Owner or Admin if you need it changed—there’s no password, role, or security editor on this page.

3. Profile — Start of Week

Card title: Start of Week (helper: Choose which day anchors your weekly schedule.).

  • Label: First Day of Week
  • Choices: Sunday or Monday
  • Click either option — it saves immediately (selected day shows a check)

This is your personal preference for how weeks line up on the Calendar and Timeline. It doesn’t change anyone else’s view, and it isn’t the same as the organization’s timezone in Admin Console → Church Profile.

4. Notifications

Open the Notifications tab to choose what you hear about—and whether each type is In-app, Email, or both.

Preferences sit in three cards, each with a short description and a Beta badge:

Section Description in the app
Communications Stay in the loop on calendar updates.
Campaigns Know when campaigns shift so you can adjust quickly.
Mentions Get notified when someone tags you.

Each row has a label, a short description, and In-app / Email toggles. Flip a toggle and it saves immediately (toasts like Email notifications enabled. or In-app notifications disabled.).

What’s in each section

Communications — New communications; Communications rescheduled; Communication status updates (draft / active / complete); Draft due soon (2 days); Assignments on communications (Plus events); New comments on communications (Plus events).

Campaigns — New campaigns; Campaigns rescheduled; Campaign status updates (draft / active / archived); Campaign starting soon (7 days); Campaign ending soon (3 days); Assignments on campaigns (Plus events); New comments on campaigns (Plus events).

Mentions — Mentions in comments when someone @mentions you (Plus events).

Assignment, comment, and mention rows still appear in Settings on Essentials; those alerts only fire when those Plus features are available. Full behavior of the bell, emails, and click-throughs lives in Notifications.

Defaults

  • In-app is generally on for each type.
  • Email defaults on for assignments (campaign and communication), new comments on campaigns and communications, and mentions. Other email types default off.

Email messages typically include a title, a short body, View details, and a link back to manage preferences in User Settings.

5. Tips

  • Use a clear, square profile photo so teammates recognize you in comments and assignments.
  • Set First Day of Week to how your church actually plans (Sunday-first is common).
  • If you use Assignments and Comments on Plus, leave those email toggles on—and turn off calendar noise you don’t need.

6. Troubleshooting

Photo won’t upload — Use JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP under 5MB; try a smaller square image. Watch for messages like Image exceeds 5MB or We could not upload that image.

Name won’t save — Click Save after Edit (not just Close). Check your connection and try again.

Notification toggles feel stuck — Wait for the confirmation toast; refresh if needed. If prefs won’t load, you may see We couldn't load your preferences…

Don’t see User settings — Confirm you’re signed in and refresh. Every role should have this menu item.
